I need advice for how to proffesionally deal with the locals

February 17, 2007

Dear people who read this and have some experience of dealing with the locals (locals in the Jordan community) …

I am begging you for some help, I am a member of AIESEC, which is an international  student organization (it will be hard to explain about it in a short sentence) any way, and I am in a team that is doing some research about CSR (corperate social responcibility) in Jordan, I am also in charge of planning some learning activities, which is all very interesting and great to do, but I came across some difficulties, most of which I have been able to creatively solve, but one thing is really standing in my way to success in my duty, here is how it goes…

I make an appointment with someone who might help us in the learning activity, and I itroduce AIESEC to them, I explain what we are doing and how we do things, and their faces just start the shine, and they get so exited about haveing an organization like this one in Jordan, they keep asking questions about it, they kind of BEG to be allowed to be more involved, and they keep me their promise that they will at least be a part of the learning activity I am planning at the moment, so far so good, I take their free times, and what they are able to provide us (which is the meterial they can teach us about),  things go OK, and I out of being afficient and practical I make a draft of a plan show it to them even before I show it to my team or MC (member commite), and then suddenly I find out that they have changed their mind, and they simple say that they don’t think its the right time for them to be in touch with AIESEC activities at the moment, first of all we are not asking them to be a real active part in our organization, if they want to then it would be great, but they don’t have to, 2′nd of all they said that they would help us, how did they change their mind so completly, 3′rd of all if they changed their mind why didn’t they tell me so that I wouldn’t have waisted so much time makeing plans and stuff, I did leave my number and email but they didn’t even bother to take 5 minutes to inform me, instead they just let me waist several days for nothing…

Now the problem is, how can I deal with this un-proffesional behaviour, how can I make them be more serious about the promise they give, how can I make they understand and sence the importance of being serious, I mean its as if they think that as long as we are a student organization things can’t be so serious, but still I do meet them on offical apointments, I wear formal clothes, I speak in a polite formal way…

yours desperatly in need for help

2′nd day of Legislation meeting

January 29, 2007

Yesterday we finished up our first national legislation meeting for AIESEC,Jordan and it was a BLAST, not only was it a lot of fun but there was a lot of learning as well, well every AIESEC meeting is filled with fun and learning, so here goes the summary of what happened.

Well I came very late as usuall but also as usuall it waas not my fault, my trip back from Turky went well but after all I can’t excpect the whole air trafic to be under my command, but I got their in the middle of the PBOX meeting at least, Leen filled me up on what they did, then our GREAT team member Dana who is now in charge of our financial status explained how these things will go, well I kind of fell asleep for a single second while she was talking, but not because of her, because she was really great, she is better then the TLs :D , but really I was tired, it had been several days since I actually got some sleep, after the PBOX meeting ended we joined the rest of the AIESECers, then Monica and Oksana gave the last speeches and instructions, then we made a short video to send to AIESEC Neatherland because they are our new partner country. then we left again to the bowling alley :D :D :D

we really should meet more and go to the bowling alley, we REALLY have a lot of FUN there,  when we are a group of about 20 people the bowling alley becomes a different experience then usuall…

Its very important to me that I mention how this 2 day meeting have regiven me the  motivation to work with in my AIESEC project, and for those who thinks we’ll fail, SCREW YOU, and we will definatly succeed and then we can show you the finger and proudly tell you “up yours” (pardon my semi-rude language but I on fire!!!)

by the end of this week we’ll have our goals for the next quarter ready, and then I’ll post what I decided to try to achive untill next national meeting.

WISH US LUCK ( we don’t actually need it , but an extra help would be nice)

National legislative meeting

January 28, 2007

Yesterday 27th of Jan,2007  was the first day of our FIRST National legislative meeting for AIESEC Jordan, I was so exited about it and felt that we are finaly getting into the “international organisation” atmoshper, but unfortunatly I was stuck in Turkey and were only able to get to amman around 12 mid-day, so I was able to attend a bit of it, but I did miss out on some of the most “learning and usefull parts”, any way here is a post about yesterday.

I thought I was going to write at least a 12 page worth post about this, but I can’t find out where to start and what to talk about more because there was SO much interesting stuff going on; Annika showed the members the “serious roll-call” the one about the shark attack, we ellected our new MCP, and voted on confident or not to 4 different MCVP candidates, I got to know a few members of LC Irbid a bit more, we went bowling in the end, yes yes I know bowling is not usually a part of legislative meetings, but we had fun, and in AIESEC fun is an important part of our work, don’t get me wrong its not just bunch of students haveing fun because I have seen some of our members doing work that others who have years of working experience wouldn’t even dare to try, so haveing fun does not mean that we aren’t one hell of a serious hard working bunch of a people.

Yesterdays meeting really got me back on track, I got new motivation to do better, I got new hope after I saw again how our members are still holding on to AIESEC in Jordan, thats why I came up with a new motivation for my Pbox,… in the end of February the TLs in the pbox will pick the best and most hard working member of the CSR team and will be rewarded with 2 tickets to any movie in any Cinama they want (inside Amman of course ;-p  )

well let me congratulate Oksana for being elected as our new MCP, I am sure you’ll you will be one great MCP and we’ll work hand in hand with you to get AIESEC Jordan up on the world map. oh and nice potato theory, God bless your grandmother she seems to be really good at giving advices.

ARGGGGG I really hate it when I got so much to write but don’t know how to put it down, well I guess you’ll just have to belive me that it was an AWESOME day.

                    GOOOOOOO AIESEC

glimse at my @life

January 2, 2007

This is the first post in the AIESEC Experience category, so I’ll just give you a simple image of whats happening…

well I have to start with the fact that I am a from the first generation of AIESECers in Jordan and very proud of it, I am aslo one of the 12 team leaders.

lets see I work in the CSR PBOX and are team leader of the learning team, I got 4 great members in my team (Karam, Aseel, Nada and Lubna), the rest of the PBOX is great too, the other 2 team leaders (Leen and Lana) are so great and helpfull that I feel extreamly lucky to have them, (and they even got  a good sence of humor).

lets see… well I am suppose to have an agenda for January ready, and I do got most of the main points writen down, but I am delaying makeing the official plan untill I know a little bit about the final exams of my team members ( till now NO LUCK in that), therefor I’ll just make the plan print it out, send it to the team and then change on it later (if we need to).

so, I’ll be uploading a mind map of this month’s important tasks ASAP, so come back and check it out.
